Mouse and Bat tiptoed into the kitchen — and froze.
The room was bathed in an eerie green glow. Herbs hung from the ceiling, and a thick potion bubbled in a cauldron on the hearth. A heavy leather-bound book sat open on the table, its pages fluttering in an invisible breeze.
Bat hovered nervously. "I don't think we're supposed to be here."
Mouse crept forward and snapped the book shut with a decisive thud. Instantly, the potion hissed and stopped boiling. The room fell still, like an angry spirit had been dismissed.
The magic faded. They had interrupted the spell just in time. It was time to leave — before something worse found them.
